LOGAN BINGGELI: VALPARAISO CERRO ABAJO 2017

EXTREME DOWNHILL RACING IN SOUTH AMERICA WITH THE U.S.A.’S #1 MTB RACING TEAM: LOGAN BINGGELI

When it comes to mountain bike racing, there are few disciplines which offer a risk/reward ratio as savage as urban DH. With courses cobbled together from residential hillsides, riders are forced to hunt for seconds off the clock amidst the rooftops and stairways of everyday life. Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo is the most well-established and infamous race in urban DH. This year’s renewal was its 15th installment and a host of the world’s most skilled racers gathered in Chile to pit themselves against three minutes of drops, jumps and concrete. Our Logan Binggeli  was there to etch the KHS presence in this years race as representing the U.S.A. and while giving off an impressive perceptible skillfulness in this race as a first timer. With over 60 invite only contestants there was indeed much anticipation in this years race.
The spectacle of mountain bikers attacking the alleyways and even shooting through houses is one which never fails to draw a big crowd, as the sport ofs shown off to fans who may otherwise never have made the trek into the mountains to watch racing on dirt.
Valparaíso is an ancient port city on Chile’s coast famed for it’s steep terrain and impossibly stacked clifftop homes. The paintpot coloured homes are a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site.
